Rooted in Practice, Open in Heart: a Welcome Note

about me
welcome

Heyyy! Welcome to my blog—I'm so grateful you're here.

My name is Heidi, and I’m a yoga instructor based in the heart of Skagit Valley in Burlington, Washington.

First things first: I want to show you my humanness. That’s really important to me, because I know how easy (and natural) it can be to put your yoga teacher on a pedestal. But the truth is—we're all just people.

I’m a wife and a mom to four earthside babies, ranging in age from 4 to 17, and the trusted caregiver of many fur babies. Our family recently moved back to the area from Kansas City, Kansas, and if we learned anything from our time there, it’s this: we are 100% Pacific Northwesterners, for life.

My life is beautifully full—mostly with nurturing and tending to my family—but I deeply value the practice of prioritizing my own self-care. That looks like yoga (of course), but also lifting weights, hitting the sauna, hiking, journaling, and, during the cozy months, crocheting and baking while binge-watching my favorite shows.

I created this blog to share more than what fits into a 60-minute class—stories, reflections, and insights from my yoga journey and the lessons that continue to unfold.

I came to yoga at 22, shortly after becoming a mother. It’s been a transformational path that’s ebbed and flowed with the seasons of my life. Over time, I’ve gained strength and flexibility, but more importantly, I’ve tapped into something much deeper—something that trickles into every corner of my day-to-day.

While I love the physical practice of asana, I’m just as passionate about yogic philosophy. My goal is to guide students into a yogic state of being in every class I teach.

I teach because I’ve been through it in my body—times when I wasn’t sure if I’d ever feel whole again. And through it all, yoga has been my steady place of healing.

My background is rooted in women’s work—from years as a doula and midwife assistant, to facilitating women’s circles. That passion flows directly into my approach to teaching yoga. I want to help women discover a practice that feels accessible, sustainable, and supportive of their own beautifully unique bodies.

Whether you’re brand new to yoga or have been practicing for years, I hope this blog can be a soft landing—a place to feel inspired, supported, and connected.

If you're curious about practicing with me or want to explore my current offerings, you can take a look right here. I’d love to connect with you, on or off the mat.

With love,

Heidi
